Stomach gas formation is part of normal digestive process. Sometimes your body suffers with an inability to digest certain types of foods containing carbohydrates such as fiber or starch. Such improperly digested food enters your large intestine and gets fermented by bacteria. This leads to formation of gas, which is normal.

But excessive gas formation can cause pain in the stomach. In most cases such pain is not health threatening. A persistent pain, which causes increased discomfort, should be medically attended though.

What are the Stomach Gas Symptoms?

Your stomach releases gases through burping or by farting (passing air from the anus). You may begin to experience symptoms of stomach gas when the gas does not release or is partially expelled, or remains confined in your intestines.

Some people have a number of symptoms with frequency while others may remain mildly affected. Symptoms and signs of stomach gas vary and depend on the amount of gas produced in the intestines.

The most common among stomach gas signs is flatulence. It is nothing but a natural process whereby you pass gas through the anus.

You swallow air while drinking liquids or eating food, when surplus air is swallowed, belching can occur. You usually belch after having meals, which is normal and should not cause any concern.

But signs for stomach gas, such as continuous or chronic belching, may be caused due to an underlying medical problem including GERD or peptic ulcer.

A presence of excessive amounts of gas in the intestines can be a result of malabsorption of carbohydrates. If not properly released, bloating and stomach pain may occur, especially in those with an amplified sensitivity to intestinal gas.
