Psoriasis: Introduction

Psoriasis is an autoimmune skin condition that is common and results in flaky, thick red skin often involving patches that are silver white colored. Psoriasis can give you red or silver white patches that are flaky.

These flaky patches are psoriasis signs that can appear on many parts of your body such as on your legs or knees, elbows, groins or scalp. The onset of psoriasis can be sudden or gradual. Although it is a non-contiguous disease, it is chronic in nature that can infect for a long period of time.

What are the Psoriasis Symptoms?

The symptoms range in frequency and intensity. The signs for psoriasis can differ among individuals along with the duration of the disease.

You may suffer minor signs of psoriasis with outbreaks that occur after long periods of time. Such outbreaks can involve tiny red patches or lesions that appear covered in white scales.

Nonetheless you may experience outbreaks with frequency that affect and cover wide areas of skin. Areas of your body such as scalp, elbows, knees and lower back are likely to be affected by psoriasis.

Some of the symptoms for psoriasis:

• Scale-like skin that appears flaky.
• Red spots that are small and emerge on surface of your skin.
• Red skin surrounding white blisters.
• Scales or sores that appear red and are itchy.
• Patches that are red colored and thick appearing as scaly skin on your elbows and knees.

Areas that can be affected with symptoms of psoriasis include your armpits, hands and feet. Psoriasis is also found to affect the fingernails, toenails, inside of your mouth, under the breast or genitals.

The exact cause for psoriasis is unclear. It remains a non curable chronic skin condition that improves or worsens with passage of time. Nonetheless, treatments for psoriasis do exist, consisting of medications that help alleviate psoriasis symptoms.
