Paralysis: Introduction

It is a permanent or temporary loss of muscle function suffered by your body. Paralysis can happen to the whole of your body or may affect a particular area of your body.

Once affected with paralysis, you can go through a range of mental and physical suffering. It affects and changes your lifestyle drastically. The major causes for paralysis are stroke and injury.

What are the Paralysis Symptoms?

Signs of paralysis are very visible and apparent and easy to detect. Symptoms of paralysis depend on the cause of paralysis and the part or area of your body that gets affected.

• Paralysis signs include a loss of sense in the affected parts of your body when touched. The paralyzed part is partially or totally bereft of any sensation when contacted.
• Moreover, you also have absence of pain in parts affected by paralysis. In addition, you are unable to sense differences in the rise and fall of temperatures and suffer from numbness to weather.
• Upon tingling, no sensation is experienced by parts of your body affected. You may also suffer from condition of incontinence.
• Sleeping paralysis involves paralysis for a small interval that can last several seconds or minutes. It is specific to visual aspects but leaves other parts of your body unaffected. It is a sleeping disorder and is not considered to be of a serious nature.

You may suffer from paralysis symptoms involving your face muscles under Bell’s palsy (a type of paralysis). Temporary in nature, sleeping paralysis causes an inability to move any muscle of your body when you wake between sleep.

There can be an immediate and sudden loss of movement and sensation in conditions like stroke or trauma. Paralysis can also develop with weakening of muscles and progress gradually in cases where it is caused due to illness or disease of certain types.

This debilitating condition can occur in both or either side of your body. You can suffer from paralysis in a specific area of your body or it can happen in wider area of your body. Paralysis may be temporary or it can be a permanent condition.
