Lung Cancer: Introduction

Lung cancer is an abnormal, uncontrolled growth of cells in your lungs. This abnormal cell growth causes formation called tumor. From the time of onset, lung cancer may spread to other parts of your body and become life-threatening.

Two types of lung cancers exist; primary and secondary. Primary lung cancer begins in your lungs. Secondary lung cancer is caused by spread of cancer from other parts of your body, to your lungs.

What are the Lung Cancer Symptoms?

Symptoms and signs usually vary with location and tumor growth extent. Most lung cancers have identifiable symptoms but can be tricky sometimes and may not show or display during a diagnosis. Signs of lung cancer may go unnoticed in the very initial stages.

• Consistent chest pain
• Cough that turns chronic
• Blood traces on coughing
• Shortness of breath
• Wheezing
• Loss of appetite
• Fatigue
• Hoarse voice
• Unhealthy weight loss

In some cases, symptoms of lung cancer can be a result of other serious underlying health conditions. Lung cancer can also cause symptoms of dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) as there is undue pressure on the esophagus.

You can get lung cancer signs due to risk factors including, but not limited to - air pollution from vehicles and factories, exposure to radioactive agent radon, asbestos particles and chemicals such as arsenic, nickel, chromium and hydrocarbons.

In addition some serious lung disease such as tuberculosis also makes you more prone to get lung cancer. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy are the established form of lung cancer treatments. Moreover there is a chance of lung cancer symptoms recurring post treatment.
