Kidney infection, also known as Pyelonephritis, is caused by bacteria. This condition is generally a result of infections in the bladder from where it spreads to the kidney. Your kidneys play an important role in removing toxins and waste products from your body. Any hindrance to this waste removal process results in a kidney infection.

What are the Kidney Infection Symptoms?

With this health condition, you may suffer from one of the most common kidney infection associated symptoms - a painful urination.

On urinating, there may be only a few drops of urine that sputter out. This leaves you with a strong urge of passing more urine.

Additionally you may notice a pungent odor in your urine. Your urine can also become cloudy colored due to infection.

However, the disease starts acutely and you experience symptoms of kidney infection such as fever. The fever is initially low grade that gets high in absence of medical intervention. You may also get chills.

You get pain in your lumbar region that is on the side of affected kidney. This puts stress on the anterior abdominal wall and you may get sharp pain.

Other signs of kidney infection to look out for - you may suffer from malaise, feel thirsty and get dysuria (painful urination). Growing headache followed by nausea and vomiting are strong indicators of rapid intoxication.

You may suffer from swelling in one or both the kidneys with a marked increase in pain. A number of people with kidney infection are also found to get symptoms of inflammation of the bladder that leads to frequent and painful urination.

Depending on health of the infected individual, kidney infection signs can differ in range and severity.

Moreover, awareness about this disease can help you easily recognize kidney infection symptoms and take steps to treat it in time. Any infection related to the kidney should be attended to as early as possible.

In case of improper treatment or absence of treatment, it can lead to kidney failure or even death.
