Genital Warts: Introduction

Genital warts are contagious, soft, fleshy formations caused by sexually transmitted disease. These warts are painless and can occur in clusters or single formation. The virus responsible for this disease is the human papilloma virus (HPV).

What are the Genital Warts Symptoms?

The warts may not form immediately upon infection and may develop after a period of several weeks or months.

This is because the virus can lie dormant in your body without showing any signs of genital warts. In fact, many people infected with HPV do not display any symptoms.

• Although genital warts do not cause pain, you may have symptoms such as redness of skin and itching.
• Lesions can occur, resembling cauliflower in shape that is colored pink, red or gray.  These lesions develop in your genital and anal area and may appear flat or raised. The bumps can grow in clusters and may expand rapidly.
• As a result, you may experience an increase in dampness and moisture in areas of infection.
• Affected males can have developments of genital warts signs as tiny papules on the shaft of their penile area.
• Symptoms of genital warts include a possibility of a marked increase in discharge of vaginal fluid.
• You may experience pain and bleeding after or at the time of sexual intercourse. This can be a more painful experience for women as their genital warts can develop inside the regions of their vagina and cervix.
• Although there is an absence of pain in mild cases of infection, symptoms include discomfort and itching in the areas affected. This symptom should not be confused with that of a simple rash.
• There can be a feeling of burning sensation in your genital or anal region in case you have a severe genital warts infection.
