Introduction

Nearsightedness or Myopia is a common visual ailment. Persons suffering from nearsightedness can see objects near to them clearly but have difficulty in viewing distant objects.

Studies have shown that myopia is caused due to bad habits learned as children and by putting unnecessary strain on your eyes.

Although nearsightedness is seldom inherited, infants kept in their cribs are not able to move around.  They fall into a habit of staring at objects close up for extended periods which can lead to cause nearsightedness.

Causes of Nearsightedness

To view objects close to us and to maintain this close vision, your eyeballs have to elongate. Such lengthening of your eyeball makes your focusing eye muscles to contract and lock for all the time: while you are reading, watching TV, working on computers and laptops or performing other similar tasks.

When your eyeballs elongate repeatedly for longer durations during such activities you can develop nearsightedness. Anxiety and frustration at an early age can also be causes of nearsightedness.

Nearsightedness Cure

Prescription glasses and contact lenses are generally used to correct nearsightedness.

People with myopia are prescribed glasses with minus numbers.

The prescription distance glasses do the work of accelerating the process by causing the objects to appear closer. The eye muscles exert more pressure to focus on objects and worsen the situation even further.

Myopia or nearsightedness is a common eyesight problem. Fortunately nearsightedness cure is not out of hand.

• Nearsightedness cure include nearsightedness exercises such as rolling your eyes slowly in a sliding fashion from side to side, then in an up and down motion and finally in a circular motion.
• Repeat the above exercise five to ten times per motion in an attempt to stimulate blood flow to your eyes and also relieve eye strain.
• Nearsightedness exercises also involve a method of near and far focusing of your eyes. This exercise involves focusing your eyes on your thumb or a relevant object thirty centimeters from your eyes and gradually moving focus to an object eight to ten meters further away. You may repeat this procedure a minimum of 5 times or more, if suitable.
• Palming exercise is a good and effective way to relax your eyes. It applies a method wherein both your palms are rubbed together and placing them in a cupped fashion on your eyes for five to ten minutes.
• Simply close your eyes and relax for some time. Meanwhile try to slow down your thinking process. This very simple and basic exercise can be practiced repeatedly anywhere and it will make a lot of difference.
