Knowing what causes your stress is a good step towards working around a solution. While many people exercise to relieve stress in their lives, others follow a number of techniques for relieving stress.

All in all, you have to experiment a bit with stress reducing techniques until you finally find one that really works for you.

Here are some Stress Relieving Techniques

Meditation

During periods of stress, your body is in an agitated state. Prolonged stress can cause physical and mental damage. Meditation works by restoring your body to calmness, relieves your agitation as your responds to stress in a much different way than it used to.

Breathing

In stressful situations you often breathe through your mouth depriving the body of the necessary amounts of oxygen. In addition, your breathing is uneven and uncontrolled.

Stress tightens you up to a degree where your breathing is often constricted as are your other body parts. In most cases, you are not aware of this.

Your body receives far less oxygen and as a result you are left with an uncomfortable feeling. While you cannot always avoid stressful situations you certainly can learn to control and regulate your breath.

Stress relieving techniques such as deep breathing allow your breath to become relaxed, slow, calm, gentle, even and nasal.

Walking

During exercise your body releases a chemical substance called endorphin that boosts your mood and makes you happy. This process takes place even when walking.

A regular habit of taking a walk gives you a natural dose of endorphins while many people have to take it artificially through medications such as those undergoing psychiatric treatment.

Making Love

You may have already experienced that stressful days often call for a good roll in the bed. This fruits up as good mood the very next day. Research has shown that sex is effective among stress reducers that results in good mood and is good for healthy blood pressure.

Gardening

If you love gardening, a small garden with small plants can be a good idea of relieving your stress. The focus here is that the physical demands of gardening should not create additional stress.

Planting, raking, harvesting and pruning activities are good outlets for tension and stress that build up in your body, but should match your ability and endurance.

The smell of flowers and freshly dug earth can have healthy effect on your spiritual and physical self.

Exercise to Relieve Stress

Physical exercise is one of the most proven and successful way of getting rid of stress. For some people a long walk becomes an effective stress relieving exercise. Others enjoy interacting with others in a walk group or a fitness program.

Many people enjoy sweating it out at the gym with strenuous workouts as a well toned body induces a sense of well being and physical wellness.

Stretching techniques, aerobic and anaerobic exercises, and meditation are some examples of stress alleviating exercises.
